Reading the road
Remote roads change quickly. Washouts, debris, narrow bridges and seasonal damage can turn a familiar route into a different challenge. Progress should always be based on current conditions rather than what the road looked like on a previous visit.
The confidence check
Before committing to a crossing or narrow section, stop and inspect it on foot. Confirm clearance, surface condition, bridge structure and whether there is space to continue or turn around on the far side.

- Recovery gear appropriate to the terrain
